ERIC W. OLSON, ESQ.
Eric W. Olson is a tax attorney with over twenty-five years of experience representing individuals and businesses in matters of tax planning and tax controversy. Regularly appearing before the NYC Tax Commission, he helps owners of commercial real estate challenge and reduce their property taxes. Eric also helps remote sellers navigate the constellation of sales tax and income tax economic nexus laws enacted by states nationwide. With his strong transactional background, he guides businesses through the federal, state, and local tax consequences of sales, acquisitions, joint ventures, and separations. Eric represents taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, NYS Department of Taxation and Finance, NYC Department of Finance, New Jersey Division of Taxation, and other taxing authorities across the country.
Upon graduating from law school, Eric served a one-year clerkship to the Hon. Lawrence L. Lasser, Presiding Judge of the New Jersey Tax Court. Thereafter, he first joined sophisticated boutique tax law firms and then eventually joined an Am Law 100 firm where he was a partner for twelve years. Eric was an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers Law School, where he taught federal corporate taxation to law students and graduate business students.
A strong proponent of community service, Eric currently serves as the Treasurer and a Board member of the Brooklyn Book Festival and as a member of his condominium’s Board of Managers. He served as a member and the Chairperson of the Glen Ridge (NJ) Planning Board. Having earned the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth, Eric served in several roles as an adult leader of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in suburban New Jersey. He also volunteered as a judge with the New York Catholic Forensic (Debate) League, a coach of youth athletic teams, and an advocate for Court Appointed Special Advocates (NYC).
An avid recreational cyclist for decades, Eric regularly pedals his favorite road bikes (a Pegoretti Marcelo and a Moots Vamoots) in New York City and beyond. He welcomes the opportunity to enjoy a ride with those who share his passion. When not working or riding, Eric enjoys travelling with his wife, Nancy.
